Surface Tension & Floating - Water Striders
Creature Teacher: The Water Strider
Science Category: Physics
Suggested Age: 7–11 years (naturally adaptable)
Students explore surface tension by taking on a simple challenge: make a metal paper clip rest on the surface of water without sinking. Inspired by the way water striders stand and move across ponds and streams, this hands-on investigation helps students discover how water molecules pull together at the surface and how animals can use that property to their advantage.
All Creature Curriculum resources are educator-designed, classroom-tested, and built to support joyful, meaningful science learning. Each lesson is part of a growing, interconnected library of science investigations where creatures lead the way.
Field-guided. Educator made.
